Why Roofs in Atlanta Get Black Streaks
Those dark streaks running down your shingles are not dirt or shadows. They are a type of algae called Gloeocapsa magma. It thrives in Georgia's warm, humid weather, and it usually shows up first on the shady, north-facing side of the house or under trees. As the algae spreads, the streaks get darker and wider. Moss and lichen can take hold too.
This growth holds moisture against your shingles and makes a roof look years older than it is. Black streak removal is one of the simplest ways to make a home in Mableton or anywhere in Metro Atlanta look cared for again.
Our Soft Wash Roof Cleaning Process
We never pressure wash a shingle roof. High pressure can knock loose the granules that protect your shingles. Instead, we use a low-pressure soft wash that kills the growth at the root, so the streaks fade away instead of being blasted off.
-
Walk-around: We look over your roof, note heavy growth and check the areas around your home.
-
Protect: We wet down or cover plants and landscaping as needed.
-
Apply: We apply our cleaning solution at low pressure to every roof section we clean.
-
Dwell: We give the solution time to work on the algae, moss and lichen.
-
Rinse: We gently rinse roof edges, gutters and landscaping.
-
Final check: We do a final walk-around with you before we leave.
